Warners Bay High student Michael May has more on his mind this year than just studying for the HSC.
May, who only just turned 18, has been snatched up to play AFL for the Sydney Swans Reserve Grade.
He has played one game for the Swans Reserves so far, with possibilities of further games throughout the season.
When he played his first game in June, May proved that he was someone to look out for, scoring a goal within minutes of being on the field and wrapping up numerous possessions.
Despite being one of the youngest players on the team, he was voted one of the four best players on the day in the Man of the Match awards, out of 22 team members.
Making it into the Swans Reserves team seemed to happen quite quickly for May.
“I got picked for the Northern NSW heat team and played in Coffs Harbour early this year, and from that I got picked for the Rising Rams, the NSW/ACT squad.
“I was picked from that squad to play for the Swans.”
May’s AFL career looks promising, with scouts from both Collingwood and Western Bulldogs expressing interest in him.
He plans to move to Sydney next year to pursue his football career, and hopes to play first grade AFL for the Pennant Hills Demons.
He also hopes to one day be given the opportunity to play for the Sydney Swans.
At the moment, however, May is busy juggling assignments and exams with a heavy training schedule.
“At this stage my main goal is football, I want to get to the top of it.”
